Correct, old mate. But after his poor performances from the previous campaign, he didn't appear much that season.

it’s fair to day those of us under 50 didn’t see how bad we were. When the usual suspects complain now (as they’ve got a right to do of course) I always think how they’d have got on in the 60’s and 70’s!

I either guess the pubs were alight every Saturday evening and Sunday lunch session or looking at our crowds there was just a general
    apathy

Still one of my all time faves Mick Butler, hence the username! Fantastic finisher and lightning quick but played in a brutal era. Broke his leg twice but still bounced back as brave as ever.

How did you start following Barnsley as your 2nd team?

Just asking, genuinely don't know. I'm sure you must have mentioned it on here before but either missed it or before I joined.

I'd be guessing but it must have something to do with the PL season

No it was after that mate. Around 2008. Looking for an English team to follow but not wanting to follow the plastic and soulless Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool type teams who everyone else follows and are BIG fans of but never see them.
The Hume / Morgan incident was on sky news and I posted a comment on Tykes Mad. Got a few replies. Not all nice .
Also your FA cup run around that time and seeing the delight on fans faces made me think that’s the type of team I wouldn’t mind following. Not too far away, don’t win much but when they do they celebrate like it’s the European Cup.
Came down and have since met some really fantastic football people. Always have a great time when I visit.

I’m happy to do so and the fact I know I have converted a few Tykes to take an interest in Dundee United. I’ve taken a couple of posters along to Tannadice and Sparky has come along to Three cup finals. Unfortunately losing the Scottish Cup and League Cup but winning the Challenge cup.

My nannan's cousin Mick Butler. She was Joyce Butler and then married my grandad. All lived on Athersley. I'm too young to have seen him play unfortunately.

Just before I started watching, in 1975. Other than Greenwood & Mahoney it was same team though. Pre Jim Iley.

I used to have a cutting from the Daily Mirror from 1975, showing all his injuries. No idea where it went. One of our better strikers. Sold to Huddersfield for a pittance

If you look closely, the table doesn't include our result against Bradford, which was a draw.

Sorry for being late to the party but here is the Mick Butler article from the Mirror in 1975. The story of his debut is like something from a comic book. Mick was working at the pit when the club hit an injury crisis. He was selected to play on the Saturday but could not be contacted as he was having a few days with his In-Laws in Royston as opposed to being at his Worsbrough home. Only a headline plea in the Chronicle alerted him to the fact he was playing and the club couldnt contact him. True Roy of the Rovers stuff
