Mi lad is just applying for a job but they are asking for bank details, I told him no way, don't they asked for Bank details only if you are hired?

It would be unusual to ask for bank details at the application stage - I have never done it - maybe if asking in for an interview if you are offering expenses but it seems a bit strange - I'd want to know why before I gave them

I was asked for my bank details when interviewed for the job I do now at the NHS. Apparently it's a sure fire way of knowing you've got the job. They only ask the candidate they're hiring for extra information. It was also the same at the interview for a Medical Records job at Barnsley Hospital but I gave back word on that.

Some do but he doesnt have to give it at this stage unless they're doing a financial check. Not saying your lads a wrong un but taking down his social media accounts wouldn't hurt an all.

I would say a degree of trust can be determined by where the job was advertised. If it's an organisation you can easily research advertising on their own website, it's likely to be okay.

BUT, if it's an Indeed, Gumtree, Jobserve type platform with little information on the employer, tell your son not to go any further with it (especially if there's no company name). Sites like that are rife with scams, collecting peoples' data to sell to marketing firms when they willingly give it to apply for a job that seems to have amazing terms.

Seems a bit odd, I once applied for a internal vacancy at a company and had to have a credit check as the role included some management of funds.

Don't they usually just need a name and address (or recent address history) for that?

Depends whats on them. It was something I never used to think about until a few years ago we advertised for a new Office Administrator. I remember my colleague who was sharing the task of vetting cv's found one lass who went a quick check showed went under a name something like Raaaver Babe. Looking her up found her clearly stoned off her t*ts at 3am sometimes on a work day morning - she didnt get interviewed. IIRC I think there were other reasons for not following up as well but it hardly helped.

Might be a way of proving that he is able to work in this country. The rules have changed recently around that.

Yeah, you wouldn't need bank details for that, just recent addresses. DOB makes it easier too.

Yes as I say bank details does seem odd. I would query it in a polite way.

As others have mentioned it could be for a credit records check.

We had all sorts of trouble recruiting for the car repair centre down near Manvers because it is (was) part of an insurance company which was part of a bank - and as a bank, we couldn't take on panel beaters who had dodgy credit records / defaults on payments etc..
Having said that we always told folk why they were being asked for bank details.

You don't need bank details to run a credit check though. You just need a name and address, or name and DOB. So I very much doubt it is for credit checking. I'm an ex police financial investigator so used to run checks daily as part of my role.

Is it through an agency? Some ask for them so they have on file, in case you get offered the job with an immediate start.

Neither am l for that very reason, one of the first things potential employees do is check their potential candidates social media accounts.

I'm pretending to be an 80s footballer on here.
