I watched When English Football Ruled Europe last night, looking back at when Liverpool and Forest dominated the European Cup. The oft-repeated recollection was that the players were sent out with few tactics and to do their own thing. We don't half complicate the game these days.

Hecky tied himself and the team in knots trying to combat the opposition. I'm certain the best philosophy is let them worry about us.

Looking on their forum, a few Rotherham fans rate Smith. I had to double check who this Smith is. Yep - it's him. Good God.

A perfect example of spreadsheet mis-use. You need to bring in the right sort of player to complement the rest of the squad and the way you intend to play. There's no doubt he was a good player, he just didn't suit our team. He scored 18 goals for Swindon the season before. The spreadsheet needs to be in the right hands. Knowledgeable ones.

Our owner could gift us money one way or another if he likes, up to him if he's going to go for it a bit or not.

Apparently he wasn't a spreadsheet signing. Johnno just wanted him.

I wonder what the response to that statement would have been twelve months ago?!

I like Moore and think he'll be an asset in League One, where a bit of rough forward play probably has more of a place than in the Championship.

Don't disagree about his goal output and as others have mentioned, it's possibly down to needing confidence and a bit more composure at times.

Another way of looking at it I think is to maybe compare our goal threat on other seasons. When we've been a good side in any division, we've rarely had a striker who's scored more than 1 in 3. But they've been surrounded by a productive midfield so maybe the misses/composure is over analysed at times? Parker and Aylott had Banks and Glavin, Currie and Cooper had Agnew/MacDonald (more a third striker I guess), Hendrie/Wilkinson had Redfearn, and even more recently Mark Richards and Paul Hayes had Brian Howard. Hourihane most recently.

    Just an opinion.

Agreed , but Mcburnie is a striker of higher quality , my point is that for the division we are in next season then Moore with his physicality is the ideal player for us because if you think we can sell Moore & bring someone of Mcburnie"s quality to replace him , then you are in dreamland , its not going to happen .

I can foresee an “acceptable” bid being made before the start of the season.

Moore had the 2nd best goals per minute played ratio in league one last season. He is guaranteed to get goals at that level - it would be madness to sell.

He followed that up with the championships highest miss per minute with us. Probably trying too hard.

if its true that the new gaffer likes to play 4231 then I think moore is ideal in league 1 and with a further 12 months experience I think he maybe a good asset for next season

Hos goals ratio in Div 1 on loan was very good, I've no doubt the misses he made, which were bad, were just that - bad ones and not indicative of his overall finishing ability. I'd hope we can keep him, he'll be a real handful.

The 60 percent thing is a bit of a red herring given that gifts from the owner count towards turnover. Not that they will or should be the owners could gift us 20 million quid and we could spend it

Slightly old article but sums it up fairly well. As long as the money is a gift not a loan then it counts towards revenue.

So if our billionaire owners so wanted they could have afforded to keep Adam Hammill in League 1 without it impacting FFP by gifting the value of his contract.

As you say Jimmy, I don’t expect them to pump millions in. I would rather we keep on the plan of a self funded club who can survive if the owners suddenly decided to pull the plug or disappear.

Any player that wants to go can go for me. Moore hardly pulled up any trees so if we can make a profit on him so be it. Just whack in a 40% sell on in case he turns into a Chris Wood type frontman. He’d do well at Preston I reckon.

Why are we assuming Kieffer wants to leave? This lad gave everything in the matches he played! Up front on his own, he had to cover all the defenders- no wonder he was shattered in games! Missed a few chances when shattered - give him a break! He was what we were missing - biggest problem was that the coaching idiot played Oli as a glorified wingback so the 2 of them weren't able to form a partnership & share the closing down. Kieffer won virtually every header but had no one following up on his flick-ons. I remember Aug-Jan when we won no headers - he'll be needed more than ever in L1

    Six figures?

Surely it has to be 7 figures before we even entertain it?

I think he’s a top league one striker with the potential to be a very good championship one.

With three years on his contract, he shouldn’t be allowed to leave for anything less than twice what we paid for him, and I’d be disappointed at that.

    £2million plus, let him go.

But we wouldn’t know about the bids if the club wasn’t intent on selling imo, just trying to up the bids.

Hope I’m wrong, I really think at the level we find ourselves at he’d be a match winner.
