Can anyone remember the scorers? I've got Grenville Firth's book somewhere in my lock up. (signed by Allan Clarke), but it's bugging me. Will have to scramble over a bunch of broken speakers, lights & old CD players tomorrow if not.

Cheers, thought Peachey got a hat trick... wasn't a great season that 75/76 we flirted with the bottom 4 from memory. Need to dig that book out, was a decent read.

The old "Iley Out" days :)
My first full season, mainly home games, watching Tarn.
Team may have not been good but the whole occasion in that era was much better imo.

I might be wrong but I also think we walloped another team away that season & it could have been Barrow , I believe we put 5 past them on their own turf , someone with a better memory than me might be able to confirm .

Barrow went out the league around 1970 so it weren't them.

John Peachey's hat trick was a so-called perfect one - left, right, bonce.

Of course, in those days forwards scored on a fairly regular basis. Try telling that to today's supporters and they won't believe you.

    And we had wingers...
    *sigh*

Would have been sometime between 75 and 77 I'd guess? I remember seeing the score come up on the late news and not being able to believe it.
    Happy days.

Didn't we play in that yellow away shirt with the red, black and white stripe down one side that night?
    Very avant garde that was.

It was towards the end of the 75/76 season. I couldn't wait to get into school to harp on about it! Especially to the Wednesdayites!

Yes you are right, get your thinking cap on & think who it might have been , I know we put 5 past Scunthorpe a couple of times around that era , I might be getting mixed up

Northampton stuck 5 past us at their ground that season.

We beat Reading 4-2 at home, and i think they went up that year?
Donny and Huddersfield away were memorable games for me. Donny were a decent Fourth Division side with Kitchen and O'Callaghan up front. They always seemed to win at Oakwell back then.
I think we put a serious dent in Huddersfield's promotion push at Leeds Road? It was bedlam in the bus station afterwards and on the bus ride home.

Workington had an old advertisement painted on the roof of the covered terracing, opposite to where we were stood. It was from a local ice cream company and had the slogan "We take some licking".

I was in hospital that night, having had my appendix out, but was fit enough to get into the television room to watch The Two Ronnies. This was followed by the Reds sending me such a kind result at Workington that I almost split my stitches open. Great tonic for recovery. Pity it didn't evolve into a great revival.

Yep, the Huddersfield one you mention was the 2-1 win we had at Leeds Road (mentioned on another thread after the cup draw). Memorable for Kenny Brown's screamer at the away end.

John Peachey ran a keep fit session in the old Barnsley Baths building in the mid to late 80`s.
Used to push you to within an inch of yer life. Me anyway.
    Really nice bloke.
